Really? I thought there were a lot of interesting scores from that decade, some of them favourites of mine. "The Secret Garden" and "Kiss of the Spider Woman" were quite good, "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King" which I admit were Disney films first but the music and the spectacle are just as brilliant as anything from the 1980s, "Jekyll & Hyde" and "The Scarlet Pimpernel" from Frank Wildhorn and "Pimpernel" is the only other score aside from "My Fair Lady" where I enjoy all of the songs, "Ragtime" which would have won the Tony had it not have been produced in the same season as "The Lion King", sigh, and "Marie Christine".

Oh, and "Titanic" of course, my favourite score by Maury Yeston who also wrote the beautiful "Grand Hotel".

Away from Broadway, it's a shame "Whistle down the Wind" didn’t make it as that, in my opinion, has some of the best work from Andrew and Jim ever, and "Tanz" of course. I never liked "Rent".

Compare that to this decade, even Disney produced such clunkers as "Tarzan" and "The Little Mermaid" and Frank Wildhorn’s only Broadway production was the hideous "Dracula" (which, DOTV all over again, was magnificent in Austria). "Wicked" and "Billy Elliot" are good but they're nowhere near "Titanic" and "The Secret Garden" for me, or even "Sunset Boulevard".

Re: Cult of Byron, yes, it was great to see more productions of "Tanz" but wouldn't it have been nicer if we got to see other Steinman musicals too? I think "Garbo" could have been fixed and Warner Brown did write the successful "Walking with Dinosaurs" show.
