As for the role in Fight Club, I think it is some of the work he got due to the former achievements, not one of the achievements that get him further work. > If you can have achievements like that, you can get work > as long as you live? But that's the astonishing point -- most people can not! Usually, they are "forgiven" once. Maybe twice if they're lucky. A while ago, some famous actress, whose name I can't remember unfortunately, answered a respective question in an interview by talking about how for years and years it wasn't easy to get good roles/offers ... until she received an Academy Award and all of a sudden she got so much more artistic freedom, tons of quality offers etc. ... but how all of that suddenly vanished again after she played in a movie that was a good movie but just didn't do as well as expected at the box office. Just one movie -- reset to default value. Former achievement didn't count anymore. Most people have to prove themselves all the time. Those with average little jobs, and especially those in music and show biz. It's like an arcade game without savegame and extra lives: You work yourself up through the levels, you struggle and manage to get to level 2, 3, 4 ... eventually 11 ... but then one mistake and you start at zero again. (Ok, maybe you can get an extra life at level 15, so you are "forgiven" once. Or you fall back to only five levels below your last one everytime you make a mistake. Which will bring you back to zero from level 15 after 3 mistakes.) Now look at how many decades ago RHPS and BOOH are and how many "mistakes" Meat Loaf has made eversince. Even if you prefer to look at BOOH2, which is 17 years ago nevertheless, but the "mistakes" got much bigger after BOOH. Most people wouldn't get invited anywhere again after behaving like Meat Loaf usually does. So I can only repeat: I just don't get for how long he has already been able to make this work. (Sometimes I wonder if *that* is actually his true talent [as opposed to singing].) | |
