| Having just listened to HCTB, I have to say I'm very disappointed. While Jimless Meat is never as good as a true Bat album, I've been a fan of much of Meat's stuff without Steinfluence. Tracks from "Couldn't Have Said it Better" and "Bad Attitude" come to mind and there are others. But I just don't like his song selection. Los Angeloser was OK, but I'm really not a fan of "guitar rock" as I am "Piano rock" about which Jim is the master. But I know that's what Meat does, so I wasn't expecting too much from this CD. What the revelation was for me was on the Bonus Live CD. I have now concluded that I don't want to ever hear Meat sing live again. It seriously sounds like he's singing at the wrong speed. I don't know if it's how he saves his voice, or if he tries to "act" the songs since he can no longer sing them, but it's very bad. I practically have a shrine to Meat in my entertainment center, so I'm not one of those Meat haters. I'd love to have dinner with him. And I would love to see Meat do studio work if there are new Steinman songs to record, as I still think he is Jim's finest voice. But the time for performing live is over. I honestly wouldn't go to a free live show in Orlando (near my home) at this point. If they actually considered those songs worthy of release, it's time to retire from that. I get psyched for a great song and then the vocals start, and it feels like a bad acid trip has started (or at least what I would expect one to be like). I also think we should have a lottery trying to guess the date that Meat calls this CD a piece of crap, as I'm getting tired of every CD being the best one he's ever done until it flops, and then he claims he always thought it sucked...when it's time to release the next one and needs you on board. | |
