| Scaramouche, many thanks for posting the link to the Wikipedia list of West End Theatres. Its quite a cool source of information for opening and closing dates, as well as audience capacity. > I've no idea how shows are doing but if I was to guess, I > could see We Will Rock You getting to the 10 year mark and > then freeing up the Dominion. Its interesting you should say that. The possibility of the Dominion has given them hope that they might be able to secure a big theatre. Although, if the Dominion doesn't work out, then they will just have to accept scaling down the show for a smaller theatre or try something else. As Freddie sang: "The show must go on!" One trouble is that they need to secure the venue now and I don't know if anyone can say that "We Will Rock You" will close for sure. There are rumours that it might close but they are just rumours at the moment. Have you heard any rumours? > Also I cannot see Shrek lasting very long at Drury Lane, > so this could be a great venue & location (also has the > biggest stage in London, I think). Now that is very interesting. The biggest stage would be wonderful. Is "Shrek" not very good? > Who knows? If they are aiming to be up & running for > Olympics 2012 (which you hinted at) then the choices are > almost nil? Well, as you say, the Dominion and the Drury Lane are possibilities. A smaller theatre might work (although it would be a shame to lose some of the grandness of Jim's Obsidian vision). They could always go for a temporary purpose built theatre like the people who did "Peter Pan" in Kensington Gardens last summer. There is plenty of space for such a building at the O2 complex. Or it could be an arena show before going into a theatre. I believe that "Chess" was an arena show before going into the West End. | |
