"The Dream Engine" (1969) And "The Dream Engine" (2006)

I asked Scaramouche: "Are there fragments of "TEOTH" in the original "The Dream Engine" production?"

Scaramouche replied: "I've not listened for a while but all the 'turnarounds' and verse melodies are used (with different lyrics). Have you never heard The Dream Engine?"

I listened to a CD about two years ago. The song I remember the most is the fantastic "Who Needs The Young".
Its possible that I remember this particular song because it is also featured in "Neverland" (or "BOOH The Musical").

Which song from the 1969 musical contains the "TEOTH" verse melodies? I don't know why I can't remember hearing them when I listened to the CD. Perhaps two years is a long time or maybe I am just getting old. I can hear it note for note in "Tanz" but I would love to hear the original song that you refer to. Please let me know the name of the song so that I can listen to it.

Would you say then that Jim started writing his first really epic song way back then? Gosh. I wonder if anyone on this board (apart from "Wagner") actually saw the 1969 production. Does Barry ever post on Rockman?

Maybe JD saw it because she wrote a really cool synopsis on the wikea.com page. One thing she wrote is: "Still, within the two acts of The Dream Engine, you'll find much more than just stylistic similarities to what Jim produced later." And also: "A few were unable to handle the power of the show's vigorous, unashamed and explicit content and protested the one aspect of the work that should have frightened and offended them least: the physical nakedness. Why wasn't it the terrifying way The Dream Engine exposes mankind on the inside that scared them? Or maybe it was?" Brilliant (IMHO).

Is there a DVD or video tape around? Maybe Don has one.

After looking at some websites, I can only find information about the 1969 "The Dream Engine" production. Was it ever revived? Its like "More Than You Deserve", why aren't these shows ever revived?

Isn't the musical "The Dream Engine" quite different from "The Dream Engine" which performed at Joe's Pub (back in 2006)?

"The Dream Engine" website says: "the band filled Joe's Pub with melodic, thunderous and emotional Steinman songs as the show went on as scheduled to a packed house (despite the snow). Special guest star Bonnie Tyler belted out Total Eclipse Of The Heart and The Dream Engine explored new and classic songs."

I really wish that I had been able to go to New York and see that show but I had to look after Elva's cat (my favourite excuse for avoiding air travel). Apparently Elva and Frances had to brave a snowstorm to get to the pub. I hear that both "The Dream Engine" and Bonnie were fantastic and they had the opportunity to meet JD and some very interesting fans. A great time was had by all.

If anyone here was at the Joe's Pub concert, then I would really like to hear what you thought of it. Also, did "The Dream Engine" play any other concerts? Did they ever play a gig in London? Was there ever any attempt to present "The Dream Engine" as a show or was it always intended to be a band?
