Lugosi did indeed play dracula on stage, the play deviated a lot from the novel and when it came to making the movie they based the screenplay on the script from the play, ironically, Lugosi would actually reprise the character on stage during the late 1940's when his career was on its last legs, it was a touring productions and Lugosi had hoped that it would spawn a west end run and catapult him back into the public eye, sadly, it didn't work.

As for Beattie's script idea's, cant say I was too impressed, his one about the biker returning to his hometown as a famous pop star just seemed a little to "80's" and actually reminded me a little bit streets of fire and Bat out of hell is a timeless album, it should have a movie that is also timeless. The other idea seems to deviate too far away from the tone of the album. They should really just to stick with Jim's original idea, maybe even get to write the screenplay if the musical does well enough to spawn a movie.

I will definitely listen to the song you sent the link for, sounds interesting, and Gothic rock seems the right genre of music to write a song about Bela Lugosi.

You mentioned Ed wood, I haven't seen it yet but as my interest in him increases I think I'll have to see it soon, one criticism I've heard is that Lugosi is very foul mouthed in the film, which he never really seemed the type to use profanity

I've been thinkg more about the story for a Bat Movie, might post a treatment on here in the coming weeks if anyone is interested
