Bruce's voice has always been raspy. It's changed over the years, but he's learned to adapt. In fact, I think his technique is much better now, even though his voice is deeper and a little more gravelly. In the past he tended to shout more than sing. People have always said that Bruce can't sing. I heard a version of "Into the Fire" last year that I just love. (Not out on Youtube).
