However, nobody ever connected with an audience using > Jim's material the way that Meat did. I've never really understood this. I thought Jim's performance on "Left in the dark" and Steve Barton's performance of everything in "Tanz" was just as powerful, if not more powerful than anything Meat did. Then there were other examples like Elaine Caswell on "It's all coming back to me now" and Michael Ball and Markus Lovett on "Unsettled Scores", and recently Darren on "Is nothing sacred". On the other hand, as much as I love "Dead Ringer", I think they almost spoiled it with Meat's vocals and the production. Meat just didn't sound as good on that album. As you say about Rob > Evan: "No offence to Rob Evan, but a singer who can't > bring emotional connection to the song simply doesn't work > for me no matter how well he reaches the notes." BOOH > might have sold a few million with Rob or Rory Dodd > singing lead vocals but surely it wouldn't have reached > the 42 million mark that it reached with Meat. But then I thought Rob's performance on "Land of the pig" was a lot more powerful than Meat's performance. He was much more subtle and menacing. Meat just screamed the whole thing. > > Maybe Jim could have formed a band called "Steinman", like > Carlos Santana fromed "Santana".
