I agree that on paper Desmond is actually a great choice to make a Meat album. More fool us. And you raise an interesting point: I guess the pressure from the label to have a 'hitmaker' in charge of 'Bat3' was fairly resolute and unwaivering.

Maybe Desmond was one of a short list actually offered to meat from the label? Who knows, but it is ironic given how things actually turned out.

People I would have preferred over Desmond:
• Bob Ezrin
• Trevor Horn
• Anyone
• Everyone
