I went back to the CD and re-ripped the track as a higher-quality FLAC file, and then I opened it in VLC media player with the equalizer on the "Large Hall" setting (see the attached photo for an illustration).
Listening to the song in this manner, combined with the lyrics suggestions that fans have posted on this board and emailed to me, I've come up with what I believe the lyrics to be, and I've posted them on the Jim Steinman wiki (see the attached link).
Keep in mind that some of this may be the result of the power of suggestion, like how 'backwards hidden messages' sound like gibberish until someone tells you what they supposedly say, so it'd be great to hear your opinions.
I will post the FLAC soon so you guys can re-create my audio setup, or do your own fancy audio tricks if you have the know-how.
P.S. LordRahl, I haven't forgotten about your Kim Milford question. I will try to address it in the next week or two.
