| My Collector's Edition of Bat 2 arrived today! Woot. So here are a bunch of nerdy observations relating to my original questions, for anyone who gives a shit: Turns out the audio is NOT the same as the craptacular Deluxe Edition. It appears to have much better dynamic range, hasn't had everything turned up to 11 in the master. I'm listening on a tinny old G4 iMac but I've checked a few key parts of tracks that used to annoy me on the deluxe, and it appears better. The track indexing is fixed. Bagpipes are now back at the end of Louder instead of the beginning of Good Girls. Yay! I could have sworn that the Deluxe was not just a reMASTER, but also a reMIX. How else did they fuck it up so badly? At any rate, this seems better. Guitars are on top of Synpad again, instead of the other way round as per the Deluxe Edition. The packaging is AWFUL. I'm being HELLA picky here, cause I'm a shit-hot graphic designer and I can, but the attention to detail re: production just AIN'T there compared to the deluxe edition. The front cover artwork, and all the internal images (including the photos), are very clearly scans of a print. They have obviously lost the original source materials, or deemed it cheaper and easier to scan a CD cover they picked up from Costco. It looks terrible, and the larger prints of the whelan artwork used on the Deluxe edition are absent again. What annoys me most about that is that the right hand that did the Collector's didn't bother to check with the left hand that did the Deluxe. Cause they would still have the digital versions of all this shit, sitting there ready to go. Amateurs. Which brings us to Typos. Haven't bothered reading through it all yet, but the very first thing I see is a misspelling of Chuck Burgi's name on the inside back cover of the digipak. So I assume there are more. Fucking imbeciles. And that's that. All in all, I think the perfect Bat2 package would be the bonus DVD and CD from the Collector's, in the packaging of the Deluxe with someone having bothered to proof the damn thing. | |
