They made it even DARKER. James Lapine, who collaborated with Sondheim on "Sunday in the Park with George" and "Into the Woods", directed this version. It has an unhappy ending. The comedic elements have been toned down. There are new songs, and some of them take my breath away, and I think it's Alan Menken's great score ever. There's a new song called "Esmeralda" which closes the first act and I think it's one of the greatest moments in musical theatre HISTORY. It never came to Broadway (You know that "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King" were adapted into very successful live musicals) probably because it was too dark and powerful for Disney. It's more like "Tanz" than any other live Disney musical. But there have been talks recently that it might open after all. I'm just afraid that they might ruin it. I thought it was seriously amazing. > > > 2. Hehe, Banjo Kazooie...I literally have not heard that name since I was, like, 12 years old. Oh, that takes me back. The Country and Western one is not so grand to me, which means it's more intimate, and people wouldn't be overwhelmed if we played this one at my funeral, hehe. > > 3.
