| Jim sent out this amazing email after the baseball games a couple of nights ago. I asked it I could share the mail with the sports fans here and he was good with it. Please don't complain it's not music - it's an insight into how much Jim loves baseball and I'm hoping you'll enjoy it as that!! Love, JD ---------------------- WOW! I just finished breathlessly watching the "most exciting and historic night of baseball in HISTORY"! (ESPN Quote) THIS HAD TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED!!! And with DirectTV, I saw it all on a huge 8 screens LARGER HI DEF SCREEN that blew my mind! Start with the fact that the Yankees had nothing at stake, but BOSTON, TAMPA BAY, DETROIT, TEXAS, ATLANTA, ST LOUIS and BALTIMORE WERE RIGHT IN THE THICK OF THIS MOMENTOUS FEVERISH EXCITEMENT! Never in history could anyone foresee a final day, after 162 games, and SO MANY TEAMS FATES BEING DECIDED NOT ONLY TONIGHT, The Last Day of the Season, BUT ALSO IN THE LAST OR EXTRA INNINGS!!!!! A) TAMPA HAD TO BEAT NY TO WIN WILD CARD! BOSTON HAD TO BEAT LOWLY BALTMORE TO WIN WILD CARD! ATLANTA HAD TO BEAT PHILLY TO WIN WILD CARD IN NL! ST LOUIS HAD TO BEAT HOUSTON TO WIN WILD CARD! IF TIES OCCURED, AN UNPRECEDENTED PLAYOFFS BETWEEN THE TWO FINALISTS WOULD TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY! B) SO NY GOT OFF TO A 7 RUN LEAD, LED BY TEXEIRA'S GRAND SLAM OFF THE GREAT DAVID PRICE! TAMPA SEEMED DOOMED. NY took all their regulars out in the sixth so it was TAMPA vs. the TRIPLE A YANKEES! 7-0 in the ninth. Last time Yanks lost a game after being 7-0 in the ninth was 1951!! But sure enough, TAMPA STAMPEDED BACK, fuelled by Longoria's three run homer, freakish unexpected "hits" and it was soon 7-6! THEN-- LONGORIA COMES BACK with ANOTHER HOMER & IT WAS OVER @ 8-7 TAMPA!!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYY! (I was rooting desperately to see the RED SOX fall after a 9 game collapse, the biggest in baseball history!) C) Because Boston-Baltimore had a two hour rain delay, there were freakishly wonderful moments! AS TEXEIRA HIT HIS GRAND SLAM, @ that Precise instant, Pedroia was hitting a home run for Boston! Astonishing to witness! And Boston stayed ahead into the ninth inning! Keep in mind that SAWKS WERE 72-0 when leading after 8 innings! BUT MIRACLES OCCUR!! AS BALTIMORE SCRATCHED & RIPPED THEIR WAY BACK TO A TIE, 3-3!! THEN--Robert Andino, amazingly, a lower tier player against the gr8 PAPELBON, with a man on second, slashed a fly ball to left wher CARL CRAWFORD, their wunderkind free agent 187 MILLION SIGNEE, & WHO'S HAD A DREADFUL YEAR, lunges for the ball--AND HE JUST MISSES TRAPPING IT!! The runner scores from 2nd and the CROWDS EVERYWHERE GO APESHIT!!!! THE LOWLY ORIOLES WIN 4-3! ALMOST EXACTLY THREE MINUTES LATER, in EXTRA INNINGS (12th), the RAYS HAVE LONGORIA BASH HIS SECOND HOMER AND IN THREE MINUTES, TAMPA WAS IN, BOSTON WAS OUT AND PONDERING AN ETERNAL FENWAY WASTELAND, AND HAD ACHIEVED THE BIGGEST COLLAPSE IN BASEBALL HISTORY! D) YIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! E) Meanwhile the Yanks wouldnt know who they played until the DETROIT/CLEVELAND Game and the TEXAS/L.A. games ended! (They would play the team with the worse record, which was UNDECIDED with TEXAS & DETROIT, ALL AFTER 160+ GAMES! Well, TEXAS BEAT L.A. and DETROIT BEAT CLEVELAND, which, based on a one game more victory total, meant YANKS PLAY TIGERS!!!!! ALSO YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! Imma scared of Texas! Imma terrified of Verlander of Detroit, but fuck it!!!!!!! F) As all this was going on, Atlanta managed to make the second biggest collapse ever, going from 8.5 AHEAD SEPT.1 to losing in EXTRA INNINGS TO PHILLY GIVING ST LOUIS THE WILD CARD NL! St Louis was beating Houston! G) ALL THIS ON THE LAST INNINGS OF THE LAST GAME OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!! H) ENOUGH TO GIVE BUD SELIG THE UBER NUCLEAR WET DREAM OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!! I) PROOF THAT THERE IS A GOD WITHIN THE MOST GLORIOUS GAME EVER CREATED!!!!!!! (Like with every pitch, every play, every WHOLE SEASON, its a GLORIOUS GAME OF TENSION & RELEASE!!!!!!
