In reply to: Michael Crawford as The Joker? - rockfenris2005 06:53 am UTC 03/20/07

When "Batman" the movie was first announced, no one really believed in the project. No one thought it would be a high-profile blockbuster. Until...

JACK NICHOLSON was cast as THE JOKER. That got everyone questioning. "Batman" became the biggest box-office success to DATE.

When the "Batman" musical was announced, most everyone was laughing and poking fun at the idea. However... if Crawford was announced as The Joker, Crawford being (practically) the ambassador for British musical theatre at the time, how much RESPECT would it have thrown the musical?

You've got to remember that at the time Crawford was a high-profile respectable star searching for his next blockbuster. The whole "Vampires" travesty hadn't happened yet.

It's interesting
