From what I read, I can see that they brought it even closer to the original book, but I'm not sure as of present that I like the idea of "Lovely ladies" being the next song after "I dreamed a dream". I can see why they did it. This choice actually corresponds with the original French concept album because like in the film she sang the song after she'd become a prostitute. But unlike the film, Fantine had another number on the concept album which musically wound up as the very famous Eponine song, "On my own". On the concept album it was called "The air of misery" which had a very meaningful lyric from what I remember, based on a rough English translation, but I can see why they couldn't translate that. But anyway, I respect their choice, and "Dreamed a dream" does seem to be more stirring when she's really hit rock bottom, but I liked the way it bridged the two songs in the stage show. So, yeah... I think it was in Melbourne a couple years ago. I wish I'd seen it. But I don't think it was still playing by the time I heard the album. "We meet tomorrow" is one of my favourites from that score. It gets an interesting reaction though. I told a friend of mine that there actually was a musical of "Titanic", but once I cleared them up on the Jack and Rose thing, they just lost interest. | |
