Jim must have known Barry back in the old days. As you know, Barry played piano for Bette Midler, and, as Bellminer points out in his response, Bette recorded a HCW demo for Jim. Surely they knew each other before the Read'm & Weep sessions.

Although, I am not sure about the dates. Maybe Ryan or Bellminer might know. When did Bette record the demo and when did Barry stop playing piano for her?

I would love to hear the Bette demo. Is it available anywhere?

Apparently Jim and Barry are not friends. Maybe Barry was offended when Jim called him ridiculous. I know that one of the Air Supply guys said that he will punch Jim if he sees him again because Jim said that he was so boring he was mesmerising.

It's interesting that Jim wrote what turned out to be the last huge Manilow hit after a very impressive string of hits.
