But yet I was transfixed. Every > time I saw it. My one regret is seeing it only on TV and > not in a cinema. The original book is more episodic. And that would be a challenge to resolve. For example, the Wicked Witch of the West is not introduced until after the Wizard instructs Dorothy and the others to kill the Wicked Witch. And note that he said kill her, not just bring back her broom. Also, there were no farmhands in Kansas. And Dorothy didn't wake up and say "And you were there, and you were there, and you were there". Because it wasn't a dream. Oz was a real life place. The original book begins with Dorothy, Toto, Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. And then along comes the cyclone. Also, the Good Witch of the North was not Glinda. Glinda was the Good Witch of the South. The characters were combined in the film. The Good Witch of the North was like the fairy godmother in Disney's "Cinderella". There were more adventures, more episodes. After the Wizard left Oz, Dorothy and the others then travelled to the south, Quadling Country, to meet with Glinda. Glinda didn't come down in her bubble. It's all quite interesting. But you have to take all of that and turn it into a film and the book as I said, from my memory anyway, feels more episodic. MGM actually stayed pretty faithful overall. Still, there's room for a more faithful exploration. I wish they'd turn the original book series into a TV series or something. That's what they could be mining, IMO. The Oz books were a sensation in their day. > > > I am not sure how different Carrie is from the > > > novel. Do you know? (I still haven't listened to the whole thing. I more or less focused on the songs I really wanted to hear and that's it, haha. That has to change.) > What is this new musical Stephen King is doing with John > Mellencamp about? Someone told me they are working on it > together but I don't know the plot. I shall Google. "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County". I haven't really looked into it yet. | |
