If we look at artists that were popular 40 years ago and are still popular today, then I wonder if we'll really see a significant difference with today's artists 40 years from now. I believe that a lot of artists that once were popular have long been forgotten, while some remain well known. The same will happen with today's artists: Most will probably go under without anyone really caring, and a few will still be around in a few decades. And those that will still be around are probably those that consistently produce quality. The talent's certainly there - both on the writing, as well as on the performing side of things.
