For me, it all really starts with Bat 2. Anything for love was my favourite song and played it all the time. Then I sit down here and listen to Bat 2 and now my favourite song's like seven minutes longer. To this day, it's one of the trippiest awesome experiences I've ever had with anything like that, movie, album, book. Like, if you told me "I am the walrus" is your favourite song and then you sat down and listened to it seven minutes longer... I love Bat 2 as much today as I did then. I didn't really know who Jim WAS though. I just remember seeing the writing at the bottom, Songs by Jim Steinman. Gradually the rest followed. I heard Bad for good & Original sin well after I was already familiar with the Bat 2 versions, so I don't know what it was like for people hearing it the other way around. I remember this site and then "Streets of fire" really being the turning point for me? This site is what gave me all the info on "Whistle down the wind", "Tanz", "Streets" in the first place. I didn't even know Jim had done "Tanz" and "Whistle". Always remember watching a compilation video of songs from "Streets of fire" and just going white in the face, like, when I heard "Tonight is what it means to be young". Omg!!!!!! You have no idea. Sorry, no, you do. :-) And I already knew "Nowhere fast" from "Bad attitude". Suddenly it has all these different verses and sounds so much... Steinier, haha. And now they're singing "God speed" from Bad for good. Just amazing. Similar thing happened with "Original sin" too. Suddenly the Pandora's Box version is like, wow. Some great "Jim moments" for me: * Bat out of Hell 2 * Realizing how awesome FCOL really was * Bad for good * Streets of fire * Getting the double CD album for Whistle down the wind and being able to actually hear it all. * Pandora's Box, and Jaycee from the forum sending me the vinyl for my 21st :-) * Getting Bat 2 on vinyl off eBay. Does that count? haha * Listening to complete Tanz all the way through. OMG... * "The Dream Engine" 3CD. It was all so intense. * "Something of this masquerade may follow" and "The Confidence Man" in general. "Nocturnally yours" is another one * "Garbo" songs * Ben's "unearthing activity" at the NY Public Library. Thank you. And MTYD recently. * JD uploading "Rhinegold" to the website and the awesomeness of "Rainbow" and later "Vaults of Heaven" Rory. I could go on. Part of the magic of Jim's music is that it makes me feel YOUNG. > I am a Steinmaniac since 1988 and you? | |
