| Just wanted to say, of EVERYTHING I have ever heard from Jim, this song, and this song only is my favorite of his. I don't listen to it unless I'm driving, but I catch myself humming or singing it a lot, usually when I'm thinking too much. It's a great song that gives you a lot of reasons to reflect back on your life, on choices and mistakes made and roads taken, long or short. > > Also think the motor industry (in particular wing mirrors) > has had an influence on Jim (LOL): > > "That phrase I would see all the time, cos I don't drive, > so I'm always in the passenger seat, and I would always be > looking at this weird mysterious phrase 'objects in rear > view mirror, are closer than they appear', and in my mind > it got scrambled to '...may appear closer than they are', > and I guess it just became, it just immediately suggested > ghosts to me, and the past, and I thought it was a fairly > transcendent, thrilling image about ghosts.
