When I signed in using my Amazon account, I found the reference you cite and also the fact that the Kalodner phrases are much more critical and repetitive concerning several "stinking" blizzards that winter. All he writes of the house invitation was that Jim wanted to work with Steven and Joe at his own home, and that the arrangement was not a convenient one for them to make, and they do not say why. That it was a "bumfucking suburb"? It was a suburb, and Kalodner apparently didn't want to go?....it's Kalodner's words, apparently. That's got nothing really to do with Jim in the sense that it could have been some other reason and some other person too with the same outcome. Why mention Jim at all? Wasted space on the page, unless one believes that there is no such thing as bad publicity. That's like publishing the revelation that you decided not to have a salad before your entree at dinner but is it the salad's fault?
