The most that I know about it is the blurb on cnn.com today, concerning the teacher's actions prior to the incident. Quoted,

* Killer identified as English major Cho Seung-Hui
* Teacher, concerned at his writings, went to police, university for help
* She calls Cho intelligent, but unnerving student
* Glock bought in March for $571; background check took a minute, shop owner says

With or without laws, with or without police, there is a fracture in American society that has not been identified well enough to set straight. I agree with most every post I have read on this subject here on the board, that there is not one single reply that could contain all my thoughts on the subject, but one thing that I feel sure of and that is a value system and emotional response system that is sorely lacking on an endemic scale. Somewhere, somehow, someday, I hope that more can be prevented. On the plus side of what people could do, there is much that has been done to bring such troubled students to the attention of authorities before they strike, but the issue became complicated perhaps because this was not a high school or a lower grade where students are expected to fit certain molds. In college, a certain level of maturity is granted as levity towards differences in expressions, and too much violent expression does exist, in encouraged form, within the higher level institutions, in the error-filled set of assumptions that it could be handled maturely. I'm sure that some views by some people should be reevaluated. It is an awful tragedy. There is nothing that humbles one more.
