The original film, "Wuthering Heights" is a compelling tale for those obsessed with fallen love, but for those who have fallen love, is a veritable nightmare. "Fallen love": by this I mean, love that is diswayed not by the lovers' motivations or qualities, but by external forces. "Romeo and Juliet" is one example of what I mean by "Fallen love".

The original "Wuthering Heights" is highly romantic, a really huge tear-jerker of a film, in which Heathcliff and Cathy are doomed to be misunderstood and mistimed, with the result that Cathy dies in his arms, and then, one cold lonely night, Heathcliff discovers himself being summoned by Cathy whose spirit is seeming to be outside in the snow covered landscape, where he goes to follow her call, and thus ends the story of the film.

As nightmares would go, they tend to haunt one in the daytime. It seems to me like Jim's version of "Wuthering Heights" is its antidote. As opposed to nightmare images, this film, that which I have heard or read of it, contains more images of dreams, of inspirations, of aspirations, and of hopes, than the nightmarish tale of the original namesake. I think that Jim got involved in the project to turn that nightmare set of images into a dream set of images, and empower somewhat greater, the characters within.
