| Hi everyone. I went to Meat's concert yesterday and thought I'd post a few of my thoughts. 1) Meat seemed veeery old. And way older than two years ago in Denmark when I saw him at hair of the dog. I saw him backstgage, told him in very short terms that I loved his music, but he just muttered 'no, baby' (his voice breaking while talking) and rushed along. So I had the impression that he was very stressed and nervous. 2) He looked like utter bullshit, that's for sure. His hair was short, but too long, you know, so he sort of looked like an old drunk. 3) The concert was a little short. 1,5 hrs tops, which I think had to do with the fact that other bands were taking the stage after the loaf (it was a sort of one-day festival), either that or Meat was too tired to perform anymore songs, anyway Anything for love was shortened to around 4 minutes. They never even did the 'anything for love, anything you've been dreaming of' section which was a big disappointment as I think it's the best part of the song. 4) He performed a riveting rendition of Bat as the last song, but EVERYONE seemed to wonder why he had to finish off with that shit stupid Tom Jones song and Mercury Blues. And what the fuck's that about? I HATE those two songs with every beat of my heart and to think that he performed them instead of, say, Objects or All Coming Back or Two Out Of Three (he did neither of those songs) just pisses me off even more. 5) His voice seemed very bad. He was definitely able to make those loud yells he's so known for these days, but anytime he had to sing more quietly in for example the verses of anything for love, he was. just. horrible. 6) During frying pan, which he and the band did great on stage, there was a problem with the audience which got Meat very angry, yelling in the mic to the crew 'GET THEM THE FUCK DOWN! GET THEM DOWN NOW!" which seemed to really scare people. My friend didn't like it, that's for sure. I thought it was a sort of nice addition to his monster out of the cage stage persona. All in all, I would say it was only 80% Meat compared to hair of the dog (where he wasn't exactly in top form.). I talked to a couple on the way home on the bus and we all had the feeling that the songs and the band was so great that it really saved the night, but as soon as Meat began singing Black Betty it went to shit. Now I'm looking forward to the RAH dvd, just to see if he was as great as people say, or at least better than yesterday! Take care I'm off to the beach | |
