we could argue ages about modernized versions of plays/operas.
In the smaller town I come from we nearly have anything but modernized versions of the plays. To watch something like that once or twice might be something fewsh and new, but at least after the tenth 'crazy' and 'hip' version of a classical play it's getting boring.
My guess is that it's just easier to perform for mediocre actors and singers, than it would be in the original version. (Not specifically speaking of the show you've seen, just judging from my experiences from the last years)
Why didnt you get a ticket? you should saw it the easter weekend, and it's really a great show. Take your next oportunity and see it, its absolutely worth the money.
