That's a terrific cover! I hate to admit I haven't even heard most of the versions of the songs you mention there... (hahah joining this forum will be my undoing yet I'm afraid)

I actually was gonna mention the spoken interludes... I'm always kinda iffy on them on Steinman records. They're SO overthe top and I'm not usually quite sold on Steinman's readings of them that on PB the only oen I might cut actually would be his--for some reason I *love* the Want Ad--though it's undeniably strange and I think if I had the CD playing aroudn other people I'd quietly skip over that track... I think it and the other orchestral bits work well though, perhaps better than some of the interludes on other albums personally... I certaily thinkt hat despite the fact that the album ahs so many vocalists, and moods, it holds together *really* well (perhaps better than say Bat III though I guess that owuldn't surprise most on here).

I actually love both covers too and thinkt hey fit--I actually am not too familiar with the original 20th Century Fox but Bacharach/David were and are one of my first musical obssessions so I know Red Book well--from the original Mandred Mann version from What's New Pussycat to all the covers--and I think the Stienman arrangement works perfectly for what it is.
