I don't think we've ever heard the official story about why they chose to collaborate. Maybe Jim could tell us on his blog? My theory is is that they met through Andrew straight after "Whistle" in Washington D.C., or sometime thereabouts, because "Is Nothing Sacred" was first recorded by Celine Dion for "Let's Talk About Love" (1997). There was a conflict over Celine's people taking a percentage of all the songs royalties so Jim withdrew the track (there are articles about this on the site.) Meat Loaf finally released it in 1998 and the rest is history. I wonder if you've ever heard the rumour about it being considered for James Cameron's "Titanic"? I don't know who started it but the story goes that it was meant to be in the film before being replaced by "My Heart Will Go On" (another Celine track). I don't believe it because James Horner composed the score and wrote "My Heart Will Go On" with Will Jennings AND when I (and before that, a friend of mine) asked Don Black, he denied it. I never get tired of telling this story LOL The rest is history. Black is now working on "The Count Of Monte Cristo" with Michel Legrand ("Notre Dame De Paris") which should be interesting. | |
