Any good search on the internet will show you that a 72 hour fast is the protocol for diagnosis of both hypoglycemia if in an acute chronic form, and an insulinoma which is a tumor known to be found attached to the pancreas which causes in those affected patients losses of sugar from the blood.
During the fast the doctors monitor all vital signs and blood sugar levels and they stop the fast before the blood sugar reaches a critical low level.
