| Good post (even though I don't agree with all of it!). You're right about TDE. The live shows built up a little (not much) momentum, but all of that has been lost by the almost total silence over the last 12 months. I'm not convinced that Rinkoff ever really knew what the vision was for this project. As I understand it, the original OTT shows were organised as some sort of tribute or 'present' to Jim, maybe even something to get him involved in his music again after his health problems. Now that everything has gone quiet, if TDE is to start up again it will pretty much have to begin from scratch and, if it is to succeed, then it will need a coherent idea of WHAT it's meant to be. A new band? A glorified 'tribute act' to Jim? A settled line-up or a loose collection of singers/musicians? Whatever it decides it needs to make it clear and gear its efforts accordingly. I can also see where you are coming from when you say Jim has already given enough (more than enough! LOL) in terms of his music, and we should be grateful for the amazing catalogue we already have. But, I also think some of Jim's recent songs ('Body..', 'Children...', 'Graveyard...') have been up there with his very best work, and it would be a shame if we never got to hear full studio versions of those songs and any others he has under his hat. 'Paradise Lost' and 'The Monster is out of the Cage' sound exciting from the snippets of lyrics we have so far as well. This doesn't strike me as the efforts of a man who is running out of creative ideas and it would be a shame if Jim cashed in his chips (using your poker metaphor) when he still had so much to offer. | |
