I don't agree completely here. It's not all about singing /touring and being capable to do that, it's also about stage presence/being lucky and the general public taking an interest in a singer, which they did with Meat Loaf. In my opinion we would not have heard of a Jim Steinman without Meat and we would not have heard of a Meat Loaf without Jim Steinman.
Perhaps Jim could have done a bit better with Bad for Good but it would neer have been successful as Bat out of Hell I think. Ironically I prefer the sound/production of Bad for Good to Bat.
I wouldn't say Jim's voice is amazing. It's okay and there will always be something authentic about the songwriter singing his own songs as with Graveyard Shift / Left in the Dark.
Having 50 or so hard core fans is not going to make you a living imo.
