| I don't specifically remember Karl's posts or personality, but I remember the name from the mailing list and I have sort of a vague recollection that he was a likable fellow. I've wondered now and again how the phenomenon of deaths of internet acquaintances would develop in our increasingly net-addicted culture. Hear was Karl, who some of us "knew" from a decade ago or more. And now he's gone. Poof. Words on a screen? Somebody's son. What if Justin, for example, went missing tomorrow? Who here would know? How would we ever find out? Might we eventually get to a point where regular contributors to 'net communities leave instructions for their loved ones to log on and post news of their demise to their regular message boards, newsgroups, etc? And might we then see droves of apparent "strangers" turning up at wakes and funerals, who aren't exactly strangers after all? I have no answers here, only questions. I think its an interesting subject. And not meaning to wax overly philosophical: Rest in Peace, Karl. To God if there is one, and to Sweet, Stress-free Oblivion if there ain't. > Ryan gave me some devastating news this > morning--apparently our Karl (who was very active both on > the Rockman as well as the old mailing list) was killed in > a car accident earlier this year. > He was one of the first I met, and always my favourite > poster.
