I don't think it could be repeated again. At least the risk would be a hundred times higher

Really? I always thought it was the other way round, although if you look at it carefully you're right. Plus "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina" was his first No. 1. "Any Dream Will Do" and "No Matter What" were his only other songs to hold that distinction (jee, all you cynics, "Whistle" was such a flop after-all....*eye-roll* Actually "No Matter What" is the greatest selling single from a musical SO FAR.)

And don't forget the album Variations was a

That too. What about "Tell Me On A Sunday"?

So Cats was released on the back of

Sorta. All those other successes started out as albums, except "Jeeves", but. (getting to that in a sec.)

I'm not surprised Cats was a

What really beggars belief is how "Starlight Express" got away with it. To me, that really feels like another "Cats" but without the brilliant T.S. Eliot poetry. I will say that I'm happy it's running forever in Bochum or wherever. What other show can say that it's running forever?

Yeah, you're right about that. Also, Ayckbourn had never written a musical. He essentially wrote a play that would "stand on its own" if the music didn't arrive in time. That's not the way you're supposed to write a musical. It's supposed to be a true integration of music, book and lyrics.

I'd have liked to have seen "By Jeeves" on stage.

It is a brilliant story, probably more appealing than "Phantom". I don't think "Phantom" would be the big romantic show that it is now...I think it would be a lot like that video with Steve Harley and Sarah Brightman, not to mention all the references to "turn around, bright eyes" or anything else LOL

"The siren is screaming and the fires are howling." Hey, that's Carlotta!
