| Remember when you said at Nassau in 1978, "I may be schizophrenic, but at least we have each other" (which could be a song title in and of itself, btw), Jim? Well, that's kind of what this song is like, the potential to be a large-scale "Only When I Feel." I see three or four different potential songs here, one obviously being "Paradise Lost." The rest are what I call "In the Blink of an Eye," "The Devil's Playground," and of course "I'll Decorate This City in Ribbons of Blood." Each of them has the potential to be a song in and of themselves. And each of them would need a tremendous amount of work to get there. The "Paradise Lost" chorus speaks for itself. The "In the blink of an eye, all is lost..." section could be the chorus for another song, as with the iterations of the "Devil's playground" lines, and last but not least, the "I'll decorate this city in ribbons of blood" section again reads like a whole other song. Keep up the good work, and you may have an album. But as one song combined, they do not gel together. | |
