It could be classed as selling-out you're right, it's not something I would personally do, but would I then be being smart or stubborn?

Thomas Edison didn't fail 1000 times before he made the lightbulb, he discovered a 1000 ways of how not to make a lightbulb...LOL

There's an ego and an arrogance that drives most artists to do what they do, the need for fame and fortune sometimes clouds their moral convictions like you've said, I absolutely cannot disagree with that. But just because someone might lack moral convictions, doesn't mean they're not smart.
