No, the real version, as Steinman "intended", is on the demo. Meat and Desmond tampered with the structure of the verses, and the arrangement of the song, and the general feel (most especially the powerful political line "We'll do it our way/In the USA". For me, that lessens the whole song. You take that away and it's not even scary. It's like colorizing the blood in the shower scene in "Psycho".) Firstly, Meat wasn't even allowed to record that song, but he did. Desmond or whoever changed the lyrics around, and there was nothing wrong with the song as it was. It's subtlety was its majesty, IMO. It also would build, which was something completely lacking in the Meat Loaf version. The real version will be in "Bat Out Of Hell: The Musical", I think, because it's very theatrical and the whole world will finally hear the real construct of the verses and gathering intensity of the song. Also, I'm trying to forget TMIL ever existed. | |
