| The thing that makes Back Into Hell for me is the piano sound, I believe someone once described it as 'metallic' and that's such a perfect description of it! So crisp and well played, it seems to be the core on which that album is based. Both Bat's evoke memories of a particular time in my life that it's so hard to seperate them, they are different of course, but they found me within a very short space of time. It's clear that the 'grittier' sound of Bat comes straight from the 'street' sound of the E-street band that was so eloquently adapted by Rundgren, you can almost smell the sweat and grease and touch the warm asphalt of the main drag. Back Into Hell is the triumph of accumulation, where there is finally the ability to afford all the technology available to realise a vision. The right people converge at the right time and remember this took 6 years to achieve, surely the longest album to make from conception to realisation! To say there is a lack of urgency in Back Into Hell belies the frenetic intro of ...Anything For Love... (still ringing in my ears!) and the opening verses of Out Of The Frying Pan, but I'll always love this album for its sense of evolution, of taking the best bits of previous works and improving on them. > I really prefer the 'grittier' sound of of Bat out of Hell > compared to Back into hell. > I don't know why but its seems like it has more raw energy > to it. That song is just loaded with Rundgren. > Just as a side note, I also think that 'Out of the Frying > Pan' is WAY too repetative (spelling??). Even though I > love the song!! > Any thoughts?? | |
