I prefer good lyrics. I can listen to Stephen Sondheim's musicals for an extended period of time. But then you have the lush melodies of people like Andrew Lloyd Webber, Alan Menken and Jim Steinman. All "Anything For Love" is is a verse and chorus that's endlessly repeated with new variations and the "anything you've been dreaming of" bit. You don't even notice unless it's pointed out or something. Anyway, I think a balance between the two is ideal. Billy Joel also manages to do this brilliantly.
