| I'm sorry, I don't think I came off as clear as I would have liked. America's gas prices are LOWER than the rest of the industrialized world, which artificially inflates them with taxes. We are actually getting a good deal, compared to the $11 Per Gallon gas in the UK or the $6 Per Gallon gas in Australia (American dollars of course). The reason gas companies are making so many Benjamins is because of limited supply. The scarcer the good, the more the good is worth, when met with adequate demand. This can be seen in the price of a first edition book, or an autograph. If the demand is high enough, and there isn't much of a good around, the price rises. This ensures that there is always something of the good to go around. The reason gas prices are going up is not because it's becoming more expensive to produce oil, it's because more people want it. China and India are waking up and they need it for power. More people in America are driving cars than ever, ect. Since the amount of oil is not growing with demand, oil becomes scarcer. The price goes up to make sure there isn't a shortage. The profits are a result of this. How is one to determine what profits are and are not "shafting the consumers up the arse every other week"? > > Companies make profits, that's how the system works. > > There's a difference in making a profit and shafting the > consumers up the arse every other week. > | |
