Roger Taylor: "We know some people will moan 'oh Fred's not on it...' of course he's not, you d*ckhead. If they want to know why we're bothering to do this, it's because we're still alive. It's quite simple. If they don't like it, just don't buy the record or come to the show."

Brian May: "In a sense the public is always there. Yes, we're very lucky with that as well. People supported us all through these, sometimes difficult, times and we feel a great connection with our fans because of that. It's great. As far as accepting Paul Rodgers, some did and some didn't. Some people were outraged at the idea that we could play with someone else and continue our lives, and some people were completely supportive, and you'll see the supportive ones tonight, because the other people stay away - which is fine. They wanna have the old Queen and they don't wanna have to be changed. But they can stay at home and listen to their records, and that's cool."

The album is hugely enjoyable. Three of the worlds finest musicians working in the studio on new material. It's an incredibly confident piece of work which blends the spontaneity of Rodgers with the craftsmanship of Queen. The overriding sense I had was one of great enthusiasm and joy...you can hear how energised they are to rev up the old machine and do, once again, what they've always done and what they do best.

I agree about the "grower" tag too...it's been on repeat on my iPod since it's release and it just keeps getting better.

Seeing them live in Nottingham on Friday...
