Crawford as Krolock

There's no useful reason for me to post this, as I'm clearly coming late to a party that ended six years ago, but...

In showing my kids Tanz videos from Youtube, I stumbled across a couple of Crawford as Von Krolock, and I was palpably struck by how dreadful he was. I mean, another actor might have made the "gentleman vampire" costume work, but from the neck up he looked only stupid (The Hair!), and, most offensive of all, the voice! I mean, he sounded like he couldn't sing. As though Meat Loaf himself could have sat in the audience and justifiably shaken his head in knowing disapproval.

I had heard in this forum how bad he was, but I guess I never actually got around to seeing and hearing for myself. I was genuinely stunned that the producers tried to get away with that. Think of the money they'd have saved if they'd have used the wonderful Steve Barton and counted on a cool concept and word of mouth to sell tickets. Obviously camping up the book didn;t help, either, but...

And do we know if it was Jim's idea to use the "Hot Summer Night" bit ? Because that was really an AWFUL idea.

Lastly, does anyone know where I might find an english transcript of the show? My daughters keep wanting to listen to it, and they keep asking me questions like, "Is that a vampire singing?" "Are those the villagers singing?" "What's happening?" (usually asked while people are screaming and yelling.)

I'd like to be able to give them the straight dope, rather than fudging it.
