I'm not too sure about that, but I do know that he practically forced the contestants to sing his songs. Anna Bergendahl originally chose to sing "I Love Rock N Roll", and when she was getting coached by Desmond he suggested "Save Up All Your Tears" instead.
When Lars Eriksson refused to sing one of his songs, like Desmond wanted to, apparently Desmond threatened to call him an asshole on the live broadcast.
It was quite ugly in the media, lots of headlines around everything.
