I agree with Scaramouche below that the singers on the Swedish Idol program - where Desmond Child was a guest judge - were mediocre at best, but Desmond was not getting paid a good amount of money to be on that show to harpoon an entire culture when he referred to "isolated isle" in pirate terms. The U.S is not the entire world and there are lots of cultural differences even in heavily Americanized countries like Sweden and Desmond should have recognized that before he made that comment. "Isolated isle" makes perfect sense in Sweden, and in many other parts of Scandinavia (and even Europe), thus, Desmond should have focused on evaluating the (lack of) vocal performances and kept his cultural homogeniety to himself. Like the "Isolated Isle" singer said in an interview following that clip: "I wasn't brought up to believe that you have to feel small in the presence of those above you in the ranks". The train of thought "Lick/kiss up, kick down" isn't predominant everywhere... Andreas Carlsson should be a guest judge on American Idol and harpoon some country artist singing lines that don't make any sense outside of the U.S... /Jimmy G. ------------------------- Just seen that Desmond Child was a guest judge on the Swedish version of American Idol. Check out his joke at 1.44 in the clip...very funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aH9bOJXARQ&feature=related The other clips from the show 'aint much better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7ze5RGO1y4&feature=related He must have been paid a ton of money to subject himself to these 'singers'. | |
