Ha I've wondered this as well. Perhaps Jim was trying to be clever in that he didn't remember if it was a Telecaster or a Stratocaster so chose something else?

The guitar to me is a bit of a hybrid. The neck & headstock is almost certainly from a Fender Telecaster:

The body is almost certainly a Gibson Explorer but with a modified scratchplate, only one humbucker pick-up, and one volume control.

Either Jim borrowed it from someone or he had it custom-made.

Also note that between making the video & the German TV performance of RNRDCT, it looks like the headstock has been painted red to match the body.
