I'm not sure. I think the only people who could give you a definite answer would be Meat and Jim and it would be interesting if we got them to speak about it together in an interview.

You didn't know about "Phantom"? I'm surprised. Looking back, I wish this had been Jim's collaboration with Andrew instead of "Whistle" but I guess "No Matter What" being the biggest selling single from a musical in history is a small consolation.

*Tries to imagine what Jim would have written for "The Music of the Night"...*

Alan Jay Lerner, the book and lyricist of "Brigadoon", "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot", was also another contender for lyricist but he died before he could begin the job. To me, this is one of those great tragedies of musical theatre. Alan suffered flop after flop after flop when he and Frederick Loewe went their separate ways and I believe this experience could have redeemed him in much the same way it redeemed Harold Prince at that time.
