I first saw the "Star Wars" films when I was a kid in the 1990s. And YES, I too remember that really awesome moment when Darth Vader revealed that he was Luke Skywalker's father. I wanted to watch "Return of the Jedi" straight away, but for some reason that didn't happen.
I also still remember thinking how awesome a villain Darth Vader was, until I saw THE EMPEROR, PALPATINE, who is now one of my favourite villains, with Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort a close second.

I didn't end up seeing any of the prequels at the movies because I just wasn't interested at that stage, but I remember a conversation I had with a friend about 2 years ago when we were talking about "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". I thought the duel between Voldemort and Professor Dumbledore at the Ministry of Magic was one of the most mind-blowing battles I had ever seen in a film in this genre. I was in shock.

I couldn't stop RAVING about this scene and I showed it to my friend and he said, "Yeah, that's good, but you have to see the fight between Mace Windu and Chancellor Palpatine in REVENGE OF THE SITH." I said I always liked the villain Palpatine so we watched the movie and, sure enough, I got chills watching it, especially the bit where he blew Mace Windu away screaming "POWER!!! UNLIMITED POWER...!”
JUST SENSATIONAL!!!

That immediately got me interested in seeing all the movies again, and watching the prequels for the first time. I didn't like "The Phantom Menace" and I'm not sure many others did either, "Attack of the Clones" was better than "The Phantom Menace" but I thought Hayden Christensen's Anakin was too whiny (I remember him from a Goosebumps episode in the 90s, actually, "Night of the Living Dummy 3". He played Zane. He was hilarious.)
"Revenge of the Sith" is still my favourite out of the prequels, but I still prefer the CLASSIC TRILOGY, which a lot of Star Wars fans do (I'm just not as extreme about it. And I don't understand why people find Jar Jar Binks to be so annoying when C-3PO was just as annoying in the originals.)

I got the 2 DVD Box-sets that were released last year, and the CLASSIC TRILOGY includes the new remastered editions and the original theatrical releases. I'll watch both of them, so in total I'll end up watching the entire series over 9 consecutive nights, HAHA.
But a lot of the fans have lost respect for George Lucas for always going back and tinkering with the films. I'm not sure if I mind it or not because I understand that he's the creator and he has every right to do what he wants with his work but I do not agree that the original theatrical releases should be buried.

There's a similar issue at the moment with Andrew Lloyd Webber who wants to compose new songs for "The Wizard of Oz" stage production to augment the classic score by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg. OK, I understand that the two witches don't have any solos, but I think it should be illegal for somebody to tamper with a classic in this way. To me, it's a bit like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa.
And I'm also upset that Tim Rice would go along with it. I really hope that I don't lose respect for him if this is terrible.

Anyway, I love the "Star Wars" films and I have to admit that I'm really looking forward to the 3D re-releases. I just hope George doesn't bury the originals or make any further controversial changes.

PS. Wondering what people's thoughts are on the "Terminator" franchise which I always found a little similar to Jim in some ways, because "Rise of the Machines" and "The Monster is Loose" were both disappointments compared to the other two though both had their entertaining moments...
