I guess like most things, it all boils down to personal taste. A good song will always be better then a bad song sung well, Bat 1 is the former and something like HCTB. Not to put actors or singers down by any means, since I do have a tremendous amount of respect for them, but without people like Jim to think these magical places and faces to inhabit, people like Meat are just people. My original argument was that Meat doesn't deserve the credit he gets for Bat, because the way it sounded what largely out of his hands. I appreciate Bat as a whole, the lyrics, the music and the performances. If its Meat's performance that sells the albums for people then great, all the more power to them. But it doesn't do it for me. Look at it this way, you may wanna look at the Frankenstein monster, but you wanna look into Dr Frankenstein, if that makes sense.

Also, call me blasphemous, but I think the guy on the kid champion demos did just as good a job as Meat in my opinion. But, before I get flamed, I enjoy them both equally as they have different arrangements and feels to them, and for the reprise, the faster arrangement coupled with the guys voice just captured the intensity of the lyrics perfectly.

Now, I must reiterate that I do not hate Meat, as a live performer, he's earned some high prise and every positive syllable of that he deserves, he's fantastic, one of the best in the business and a marvel to watch and listen too. However, we're not talking about live performing, we're talking about the making of Bat out of hell, which, if you take all nostalgia aside, was good because of Jim and his amazing songs. Yeah, Meat was a reason the album was good, but he wasn't the only reason, or even the main reason. At least, he wasn't for me.
