| Well the problem that I have with this as an album cover is the same problem I have with Bat2, and ONE of the same problems I have with TMiL. It has not been designed to the album aspect ratio. I understand painting an entire scene that extends beyond the proportions of a CD, so as to have imagery for marketing materials etc, but for god sakes, surely first and foremost the important part is getting the composition on the front of the CD correct!? On the front cover of VBO, there's no focus point, the guy, the bike in the clouds and the bat monster all form this stupid clusterfuck on top of each other that bumps its head into the Type at the top, and the rest of the canvas is effectively inactive . negative space. The painting in full is a beautiful composition, but cropped to a CD it doesn't conform to any aesthetic principles at all. And then there's TMiL — holy shit what a train wreck? The entire bottom right third, from about 1:30 to 6 oclock, is static. The All of the action is taking place in the top left quadrant… which on my copy is covered by a big red sticker! The bike is cropped out entirely, the guy's head is bumping into the bat's goofy bottom jaw. And WHY is it all pushed up in the top left hand corner? To make room for something? There's nothing! There's literaly nothing else in the painting? In the background behind the dude's arm is… smoke? dust? There's nothing there! Contrast this with Bernie Wrightson and Richard Corben, who as I understand are both comic book artists, on Dead Ringer and Bat respectively. They're both perfect. The composition is based on a square, the canvas is used. My jaw dropped when I first saw the cover of TMiL. It is SOOOO bad. Has no redeeming features at all. > > > > Wowsers.
