If you want to get on Jim's good side, I get the very distinct feeling growing up won't get you anywhere.

True, your original comment could be read as an insult. But it's also true Jim wouldn't be horribly offended by it.

It's also true that if you feel you need to apologise publically you should. And if people don't understand why, it doesn't matter because it was for your own purposes - it wasn't even for others to read anyway.

You're fine. Don't be nice to measure up to society. Be who you are.

... And NEVER grow up!
