I don't find Nicholson's performance funny, maybe the famouse Here's Johnny scene is kind of funny, but so what? King and his fans also complained that Nicholson seemed abosolutley totaly insane from the start rather than gradually going nuts as the story unfiolds. I disagree with that too. Also, yes, Kubrick was interested in artistic photography, but he was always interested in the story, whether it be science fiction, horror, war or whatever. I personally love Kubrick's version of the Shining and De Palma's version of Carrie. Kubrick and De Palma are two of my favorite directors and I look for their trademarks when I watch one of theier films.
