It's still an interpretation. It's like Ponchielli's "Dance Of The Hours". When Disney used it in "Fantasia" they had dancing hippos.

Or "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" fits in "Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge", the rare sequel that flopped out of town in the late 80s (LOL. Don't ask how I know that)

The lyrics don't fit, in my interpretation, it's the sound of the music that does. It has a sort of Wagnerian sound to it. At the end, I envision the vocal wails being sung by the Rhinemaidens as they sink into the river. That's the very last image we see in the show (according to the script)

But the lyrics don't fit at all, I agree.
